Sewer network upgrade

This year Council will be continuing with its sewer relining program to address ageing infrastructure in the Mareeba sewer reticulation schemes. Given the length of the sewer network this project is a multi-year program.

Mayor Tom Gilmore said that it is vital to keep maintaining, repairing and replacing decrepit infrastructure.

“The sewerage infrastructure in the township of Mareeba is ageing and has reached the point where the rate of groundwater infiltration is resulting in sewer main leaching during the wet season,” Cr Gilmore said.

“This in turn has contributed to excessive loads on sewerage pump stations, environmental releases and high volumes of effluent requiring treatment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.”

Council thanks business owners, residents, motorists and pedestrians for their patience and cooperation while the works are carried out over the next few months.
