This video was created to:
- record the memories of those who experienced the 1967 Referendum and who recall the Mabo Decision in 1992;
- and create a lasting outcome to be made available to the wider community for education, cultural and historical purposes.
The project has been led by a Reference Group including representatives from Mulungu Aboriginal Corporation, Muluridji Tribal Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and Mareeba Shire Council.
Mareeba Shire Council received a $5,000 National Reconciliation Week grant in 2017 from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Indigenous Affairs Group, to deliver the Mareeba Reconciliation Oral Histories Video Project.
Activities and events funded were to commemorate and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum and the 25th anniversary of the 1992 Mabo Decision.
In addition, the video was made possible due to the in-kind assistance provided by the Reference Group partners.
