MAREEBA Shire Mayor Tom Gilmore welcomed today’s funding announcement by the State Government of $8.3M for infrastructure in Far North Queensland.

Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines the Honourable Dr Anthony Lynham was joined by Mayors and Councillors from across the region in Kuranda to announce that more than $8.3 million and 50-plus jobs will flow soon in the Far North thanks to Palaszczuk Government’s Building our Regions Program.

Mareeba Shire Council will receive $395,053 in funding to safeguard and increase the capacity of the wastewater system in the Kenneally road area, Mareeba.

Mayor Tom Gilmore expressed his appreciation to the State Government for helping fund this vital project.

“The upgrade is critical to the functioning of the Mareeba community, and failure to undertake the wastewater system upgrade will significantly impact the community’s prosperity and wellbeing,” Cr Gilmore said.

“The project will secure an effective wastewater system to safeguard public health and the health of waterways.”

Additionally, the upgrade will create further economic development, employment opportunities and enable continued residential development in Mareeba.
