Nominations are now open for Mareeba Shire Council’s 2022 Australia Day Awards and Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin is encouraging residents to nominate individuals and community groups that have gone above and beyond to help others.

Mayor Toppin explained, “I have had the pleasure of witnessing the most remarkable rallying of community, individuals and event organisers in the last 12 months and I am excited to see who will be nominated for an Australia Day Award in 2022.”

“By recognising individuals and groups for their contribution to our communities, we create role models and further foster the incredible culture of volunteerism and giving that has long existed throughout the Mareeba Shire.”

Australia Day Awards are open to Mareeba Shire residents and community groups that have made an outstanding achievement or contribution within the community.

Residents are encouraged to submit nominations online through Council’s website, or by contacting Council’s Customer Service Centres in Mareeba and Kuranda.

Nomination forms can be submitted online, returned to the Customer Service Centres or posted to PO Box 154, Mareeba QLD 4880.

Nominations must be received, or post marked no later than 3pm on Monday, 6 December 2021.

“This year, I’d love to see nominations from far and wide across the Shire! Our annual Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony is always a special event, and I believe that the 2022 event will be even more so as we continue to emerge from the impacts of the pandemic,” Mayor Toppin said.
