Help keep our community litter free

Many community volunteers across the Mareeba Shire are constantly seen collecting rubbish from public places, helping keep the community litter free.

Mayor Tom Gilmore said their contribution is valued and they do a wonderful service for their community. “There are people out there picking up rubbish, not for recognition but because they have a sense of pride in where they live,” he said.

“Every day you can see these people beautifying our towns and the work they do is certainly recognised and appreciated.”

Councillor Gilmore also said the community should be conscious of the generous efforts of these volunteers and all do their bit to help keep the Shire clean and tidy. “People should think twice before they throw their litter out the car window or leave their rubbish for someone else to pick up.”

“Let’s all have a sense of responsibility and pride in our community and put our rubbish in the bin,” Cr Gilmore concluded.
