Festive Funding Boost

Mareeba Shire Council will receive $1.84 million to support priority infrastructure projects across the Shire under the fast-tracked $100 million Works for Queensland program announced just in time for Christmas.

Mayor Tom Gilmore has welcomed the announcement. “Works for Queensland is one of the best funding arrangements we have seen for many years and I am thrilled that the Queensland Government is continuing the program,” Cr Gilmore said.

“The Works for Queensland program is untied and therefore allows Councils to spend the funding on projects pertinent to the regions’ needs and demands.

“Furthermore, there is no burden on the ratepayer as the money is fully funded by the State which makes this program extremely popular with regional Councils. It enables us to undertake a number of projects which otherwise would be impossible to deliver.

“As a small regional Council, we rely heavily on Government grants and subsidies to bolster our capacity to provide a high level of service across all areas of the Shire.

“The recognition by the Queensland Government is deeply appreciated,” Cr Gilmore concluded.

Council will be considering which projects it will be submitting early next year.
