Mareeba Shire Council will kick off a list of shovel-ready projects across the Shire after receiving $2.5 million funding from the Queensland Government.
The State Government approved a list of projects put forward by Council that will be funded by the Queensland Government’s COVID Works for Queensland Program.
Mareeba Shire Mayor Angela Toppin welcomed the funding announcement and praised the Queensland Government’s COVID Works Package.
“Works for Queensland is a fantastic program that allows Councils to deliver projects that may have otherwise not have been possible,” Cr Toppin said.
“Council has identified a number of worthy projects across the Shire that will enhance the liveability of the Shire, create jobs and boost the local economy.”
PROJECTS INCLUDE
- Shire-wide Council facility upgrades (including the upgrade of halls, amenities blocks, swimming pool facilities and caravan parks)
- Mareeba Pound and Animal Refuge
- Mareeba Bicentennial Lakes solar lighting
- Shire-wide solar energy initiatives
- Cedric Davies Community Hub (Library Project)
“The program will create jobs and stimulate the local economy post-COVID,” Cr Toppin said.
“I sincerely thank the Queensland Government for the ongoing funding to help improve the liveability for all residents across the Shire.”
