Byrnes Street Refresh

By March 15, 2022June 27th, 2022No Comments

A 10-week project is about to kick off in Byrnes Street, Mareeba, as part of Council’s Parks & Open Spaces Action Plan!

The project will see 19 new carparks created on Byrnes St and will also involve some changes to the gardens on the median islands.

To minimise traffic disruptions during this time, generally, traffic will be reduced to one lane at the location of the works each day, with two lanes open during the busiest times.

The most visible change will be north of the Atherton St intersection where the grassed median island will be removed to allow space for the new carparks. While some of the trees will be retained others along with gardens will be removed from this location. There will be new trees planted in between the new parking bays.

We are also installing ‘maintenance kerbs’ on the remaining median islands to make maintaining the islands more efficient in the future.

We will get started later in March and, if the weather is clear, will be all done by the end of May 2022.
