Report Dog Attacks

By June 11, 2020 No Comments

Mareeba Shire Council has seen an increase in the number of dog attacks across the Shire, including attacks involving children.

Mayor Angela Toppin said everyone needs to be responsible and dog attacks are no accident. “Dog attacks are incredibly traumatic for everyone involved including pet owners, families and staff who have to respond to these incidents,” she said.

“You must ensure your dog remains in a safe and secure enclosure at all times and when out of the property is kept on a lead and restrained.”

Councillor Toppin is also urging residents to report incidences of dog attacks, aggression shown to other animals or people. “The very first step to take is to report the incident directly to Council to ensure immediate action can be taken,” she said.

“If the Council is unaware of the issue, it cannot be investigated.

“Council has procedures in place to deal with reports of dog attacks and or aggression shown towards other animals or people.

“The community has the right to feel safe Council takes responsible pet ownership seriously,” Cr Toppin said.
