Project Rescheduled to Avoid Traffic Chaos

By June 20, 2019No Comments

To limit traffic disruptions, Mareeba Shire Council will reschedule the works on the upgrade of the Anzac Avenue (John Doyle) Bridge, Mareeba as the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has indicated work will begin on the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Byrnes and Rankin Streets shortly.

Mareeba Shire Mayor Tom Gilmore said the decision was made to reschedule the bridge works until next year to keep traffic disruption and delays to a minimum.

“Both infrastructure projects will cause traffic interruptions over an extended period of time and Council did not want to compound traffic confusion and congestion,” he said.

The upgrade of the Anzac Avenue Bridge is funded by the Queensland Government’s 2019-2021 Works for Queensland program and the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program (Round 3).
