Transfer Stations and Landfills

Transfer Stations are conveniently located for disposal of waste. Household waste can be delivered to Transfer Stations at no charge.

ID Required to Dump Waste at Transfer Stations & Landfills

Residents of Mareeba Shire Council will have to provide ID by way of Drivers Licence or Rates Notice when disposing of waste at Transfer Stations and Landfills.

Any residents from outside of Mareeba Shire Council will have to pay for waste disposal as per the below schedule:

  • Non-shire residents will be charged according to the 2017-18 Fees and Charges Schedule (at commercial rates).
  • C&I – Commercial and Industrial (Including plastic fluming) – tonne – $75.00
  • C&D – Construction and Demolition – tonne – $75.00

What can go to a Transfer Station?

Broken furniture, toys, bikes. Empty, rinsed and dry containers for paint, solvents, pesticides and herbicides. Electrical appliances, green waste, batteries, motor oils and emulsions, tyres, oil filters, scrap metal, degassed gas bottles, degassed refrigerators and freezers.

What waste is not accepted?

Mareeba Shire Council does not offer landfilling or recycling of certain wastes and therefore cannot accept these at any transfer station.

These wastes include: Liquid or semi liquid wastes except motor oils, hot ash, smouldering wastes, ignitable, corrosive, reactive or toxic wastes, explosives and ammunition, contaminated soils, food, fish and poultry processing wastes, tallow, vegetable oils, putrescible wastes from commercial kitchens, poisons, Asbestos.

For grease trap waste and cooking oils, contact your local grease trap and cooking oil waste transporters. The wastes once collected will be transported to and may be treated at a number of composting facilities in the region. You may also be able to drop off some of these wastes directly at the composting facilities.

For compostable organic waste such as food, fish or poultry wastes, local composting facilities such as D&R Lavis or Swiss Farms may be able to assist you.
