Mareeba Shire Council elected Cr Lenore Wyatt as Deputy Mayor at today’s Statutory Meeting.
Cr Lenore Wyatt, a passionate advocate for community and sustainability, has been a Councillor for two consecutive terms.
“I am very humbled by the support of voters across the entire Shire, recognising me for my commitment as a Councillor.”
“I am delighted with today’s outcome and I am more than ready to support the Mayor and Councillors to serve the community as Deputy Mayor,” she said.
“I am an experienced Councillor of already eight years in the role, and I will continue to advocate for residents throughout the Shire and champion Council’s core business as well as various local community groups and initiatives.”
“As a representative for Mareeba Shire on the Local Authority Waste Management Action Committee (LAWMAC), a significant focus of my efforts has been the promotion of recycling, underlining my commitment to responsible waste management for the well-being of our Shire.”
“I have served as the Deputy Chair of the Traffic Advisory Committee, shining a spotlight on the urgency to upgrade roads and the importance of collaborating with the Department of Main Roads to address transportation challenges across the entire Shire.”
“Additionally, I chair the newly formed Mareeba Shire Local Tourism Organisation, highlighting my commitment to leveraging tourism as an economic driver.”
Mayor Angela Toppin welcomed Cr Wyatt to the position. “Congratulations to Councillor Wyatt, she is worthy of this role, and I look forward to working with her,” Mayor Toppin said.
“She brings valuable experience to the table. Her passion for public art, both as a member of the Regional Arts Development Fund Committee and from an economic and tourism perspective, reflects her commitment to enhancing our Shire’s cultural vibrancy.”
“Her leadership involves close collaboration with volunteer groups, showcasing her hands-on community involvement and I am delighted with today’s outcome,” Mayor Toppin concluded.
