In 2018 the Department of Transport and Main Roads provided a grant to Council to investigate the feasibility of constructing and managing the Mareeba to Walkamin rail trail. A consultant, Otium Planning Group, was appointed to conduct the study with community input. The study has been completed and the report was received by Council at the ordinary meeting on 19 February 2020.
