On Boxing Day morning, a small fire occurred in the Mareeba Library, caused by an electrical fault in the bathroom exhaust fan.
Thanks to the swift response from the Police and Firefighters, the fire was quickly contained, preventing structural damage to the building.
However, the soot from the fire has spread throughout the library, resulting in a major clean-up effort.
The library will reopen on Monday, 13 January 2025.
