10am 4/12/25

Mareeba Shire Council would like to advise residents that the Mt Molloy reservoir has successfully refilled overnight and is currently at 80% after a water main break was located and repaired yesterday.

Council will be onsite flushing the mains today and water pressure will be restored over the coming days.

Council would like to thank the community for their efforts to conserve water while the reservoir has been refilling.

A meeting will be held today at the Mt Molloy Hall from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and Council will provide an update to residents.

Mareeba Shire Council would like to correct an earlier statement made in relation to the low water pressure levels due to water usage during recent firefighting efforts. This statement was incorrect and did not cause the outage for the reservoir or the low water pressure issues, this was caused by a water main leak. Council would like to sincerely apologise to the Mt Molloy Rural Fire Brigade and highlight that we greatly appreciate the important work firefighters do to protect the community.
Mareeba Shire Council will be hosting a town hall meeting tomorrow 4 December at the Mt Molloy Hall from 5.30pm to 6.30pm to meet with residents about the water situation. We expect that the reservoir will be refilled and water pressure will be restored over the coming days.
We appreciate the community’s understanding.

12.40pm 3/12/25

Mareeba Shire Council advises that it has located a water main break in Mt Molloy and it has now been repaired.
Water trucks will still be used to help speed up the refilling of the reservoir.
We are urging all residents to please be conservative with water usage during this time – please only use water for absolute essentials including cooking and hygiene.
Please do not use water for anything else such as watering your garden, as this will slow down the process of refilling the reservoir.
Free bottled water is available at the Mt Molloy Hall.

9.15am 3/12/25

Mareeba Shire Council advises that the Mt Molloy reservoir is completely empty. Council staff were onsite overnight trying to restore water to the reservoir and will continue efforts to restore water throughout today.

Free bottled water will be available at the Mt Molloy Hall from 10am.

Council have arranged trucks to deliver water to the reservoir throughout today and works will continue to restore water for the town. At this stage, we do not have an estimated time that water will be restored but we will continue to provide updates throughout the day.
