Queen’s Baton Relay visits Mareeba

Locals are encouraged to cheer on their local legends when they carry the Queen’s baton through the streets of Mareeba later this month.

The eyes of the Commonwealth will be on Mareeba on Wednesday 14 March 2018 as the Baton journeys towards its final destination, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018.

The convoy will begin at Mareeba State School at 2.00pm before heading to St Thomas’s Primary School. After a brief stop at St Thomas’s, the convoy will turn right onto Rankin Street before heading north along Byrnes Street and finish at Rotary Park.

Please note the following intersections will be temporarily blocked or managed by traffic control between approximately 1pm and 3pm.

  • Rankin St & Byrnes St
  • Jacobson St & Byrnes St

Detours will also be in place along Byrnes Street (southbound) from Lloyd Street to Rankin Street.

The Queensland Police Service will be assisting with traffic management to ensure safety for the baton bearers, motorists and pedestrians.
