Contractor Work Health and Safety Induction

Mareeba Shire Council is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all workers, contractors, suppliers and visitors.

To meet obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, all contractors and suppliers must complete Council’s online safety induction before starting work on a Council site or providing services and provide proof of completion if requested.

While the online induction provides general safety guidance, it does not cover every possible circumstance. Some work may also require a site-specific induction, submission of risk assessments or safe work method statements, and compliance with any reasonable safety directions from Council staff. Contractors remain responsible for ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with applicable work health and safety legislation and their own Safety Management Systems.

Supplier Code of Conduct

Council expects all suppliers, contractors and their employees to carry out their work in a professional, ethical and safe manner while representing their organisation and interacting with Council staff, the community and other stakeholders.

To support this, all suppliers engaged by Council are required to read and acknowledge Council’s Supplier Code of Conduct prior to commencing work or entering into a contract with Council.

This requirement supports Council’s obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and promotes consistent standards across all organisations working with Council.
