Department of Transport and Main Roads have advised they will be carrying out asphalt resurfacing works on a section towards the middle of the Kuranda Range on Kennedy Highway (Cairns – Mareeba) to repair and strengthen the road surface.
The works will be carried out at night to minimise the impact on traffic on this busy road. Crews will be onsite between 6 pm and 6 am from 11 June 2018 and the works are expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers during the works. Although the works will only be carried out at night, speed limit reductions may remain in place during the day through the work area.
Road users should expect minor delays, however are encouraged to plan alternative routes if possible for the duration of the works if intending to travel at night.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Changes in dates due to poor weather will be posted on the VMS. Arrangements will be made to ensure emergency vehicles are not impeded by the works.
