Public use computers and wifi
All library branches offer free wifi during library opening hours. Public computers can be booked online or in the library. Bookings are available for one hour per day at no cost with further time available for a small fee and depending on demand. Book a computer online here.
Inter-Library Loan requests
You can request books not held by Mareeba Shire Library Service from other library services. Before making a request please check the library catalogue to make sure Mareeba Library Service does not have the item in its collection. If you cannot find the item in the Mareeba Shire Library catalogue, submit an interlibrary loan request at a cost of $2.50. Click here to submit a interlibrary loan request
The Library will attempt to obtain the item; however, availability is subject to the lending policies of the library that owns the item. It can take some time for items to arrive.
Requests for Purchase
If the Mareeba Shire Library Service does not hold the title you are after, please feel free to make a request for purchase, you must be a library member to do so. Every effort will be made to purchase the item however some items may not be available, or suitable for purchase. Click here to suggest a purchase.
Free Digital Literacy Training
Mareeba branch library offers a session to help Seniors use their technology on Fridays during school term Tech-Savvy Seniors.
Please contact your local branch for information about joining or forming your own Book Club.
Find information about Council’s Summer Reading program for kids. It runs annually from December until January.
Playstation and Wii
Bookings can be made outside of school hours during school terms and in opening hours during the school holidays.
Whether you are expecting, a first-time parent or an old hand, there is plenty of useful information for you in the Parenting Collection, available at all branches and located near the Children’s area. Topics covered in this collection include: general parenting, child birth and development, childhood illnesses, nutrition and behavioural issues.
Mareeba Shire Libraries provide a range of items for members of the community who speak English as a second language. This collection includes fiction and non-fiction materials for adults and children. If you can’t find the language you are looking for, please let the Library staff known as the library has access to books in approximately 45 languages through the State Library of Queensland.
Local History Collection
Local History collections are housed at Mareeba and Kuranda Libraries. The collection includes books and general information on the history, culture, environment and development of the Shire.
Identified Indigenous Collections
Mareeba Shire Library Service strives to connect with local Indigenous cultures by increasing the visibility of Indigenous resources using an Aboriginal flag sticker on resources produced by and for Indigenous individuals and communities.
English Language Improvement ESL Collection.
For people who are learning English as a foreign language and want to improve their language skills. The collection is an independent learning resource designed to
aid with various aspects of the English language.
Readers Recommendation & Book Lists
If you need book recommendations, you’ve come to the right place! Library staff are big readers and they love to share their suggestions with you. Staff can also provide you with a variety of online reading lists and suggest an author similar to those you enjoy from the “Who Writes Like” guide.

The Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards raise awareness of the role speech pathologists play in assisting people of all ages to develop their language and literacy skills. The Awards book list includes book recommendations by age and an Indigenous reading list.
