Rhyme Time Project Assistant (Casual)

The Role:

Our Casual Rhyme Time Project Assistant plans and delivers grant-funded literacy programming at various locations throughout the Shire.  The position is responsible for planning, programming and delivering the library’s Rhyme Time literacy-based program.

Rhyme Time is a music and rhyme-based literacy program for babies and is delivered at Kuranda Library, Mareeba Library, Dimbulah Library, Julatten Community Centre and other venues on request.

What we are looking for:

  • You will need to be skilled at developing and delivering activities for children, have experience working in a field related to early childhood education and hold a current Working with Children blue card
  • You will need to have knowledge of a range of simple songs, active rhymes and appropriate books for babies to enable you to communicate well with babies and their families to encourage and support communication and pre-literacy development
  • You will need to be an effective communicator with knowledge of library resources and local community services that support families
  • You will need to have excellent customer service skills, sound computer and internet research skills and awareness of current library technologies and practices
  • You will need to have flexible availability to work on an ‘as required’ basis and be willing to travel to work at various locations throughout the Shire
