The role
The Ganger Construction & Maintenance assists the Foreperson Construction & Maintenance in the delivery of road maintenance and construction activities within the Shire. This position involves directing and supervising work groups while ensuring compliance with Council policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
This position involves physically demanding work in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis. As such, it is the responsibility of the Ganger Construction & Maintenance to ensure they are physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks. This includes a requirement to maintain a weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) for the seat of the machinery and equipment they will be required to operate.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. You will have:
- Current Queensland C class driver’s licence
- Queensland Construction Industry White Card or national equivalent
- Current Traffic Control Accreditation or eligibility to obtain
- Current First Aid and CPR qualifications (to be obtained within 6 months of commencement)
- Demonstrated experience in road, bridge and drainage maintenance
- Experience supervising a work group
- Good communication skills and the ability to work under limited supervision
- Basic computer skills using the Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation
You will be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.

- Mareeba Allowance of $2,080 per annum and other Award allowances as applicable
