Bridge Load Limits Reduced

Mareeba Shire Council has had to reduce the Load Limits of four (4) bridges across the Shire, effective immediately following a recent inspection review.

The Barron River Bridge, Anzac Avenue Mareeba will be reduced to a five (5) tonne load limit.

Although the Load Limit on the Barron River Bridge will be reduced from 15 tonne to five (5), Council does not believe it will impact road users significantly as there are a limited number of vehicles in the five (5) to 15 tonne range that currently use it.

Mareeba Shire Council Mayor Tom Gilmore said key users including schools and bus companies have been notified of the reduction.

Bushy Creek at Mt Lewis Road Julatten and Flaggy Creek at Mona Mona Road Myola will be reduced to a three (3) tonne Load Limit while a five (5) tonne Load Limit will be introduced at Nissen Creek Bridge, Mt Lewis Road Julatten.

Councillor Gilmore said, “We are obliged to respond to this advice to lower the Load Limit immediately and the necessary signage is being installed.”

Council is now awaiting the consultants repair and renovation plans and will then look at sourcing funding to undertake these works.
